Avant-Garde: The future
Avant-Garde is a French word that can be defined as the works that are experimental or innovative, that are ahead of the times. It pushes the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm, i.e., basic and usual.
It literally means "advanced guard" or "ahead of the guard". It is a forward looking movement carried out by innovative designers.

Isn't it so beautiful? I would definitely wear it!
History
Now let's talk about the history before getting into the future (after all our ancestors were the one to start this).
Avant-Garde fashion was started in the early 1900s, although there were a few designs seen in the late 1800's. Now this term isn't just used in fashion, it is used in all kinds of arts and also related to society. This movement was started in the 1850s with the realism of Gustave Courbet, who was strongly influenced by the early socialist ideas.
For some reason it was a controversial subject in the 1960s (apparently there are people who don't like future art, or maybe they're they are just jelly (jelly means jealous, in case you didn't know))
Now the rest of the history is quite complicated so we'll leave it behind and move on to expand it.
The Real Deal
Now Avant-Garde is not just for the talented artists and designers, even you can create something Avant Garde. Yes, that's right, if you have a great imagination and futuristic thoughts (futuristic thoughts? I'm not too sure if that's correct, but you get the point), then even you can create something Avant Garde!
Now I am more into the fashion part of all this, so that's what I will be talking about.
There are so many amazing designers out there who have created breathtaking looks, I am quite literally obsessed with all the designs.
I mean just look at it! Isn't that just so lovely!?
There are so many innovative designers creating Avant Garde, let's take a look at their works.
1. Iris Van Herpen (my personal fav)
2. Thierry Mugler
I. AM. OBSESSED.
3. Vivienne Westwood
4. Alexander McQueen (AKA the legend)
It was fun looking at these amazing designs, wasn't it? Now why don't we try out our creative skills too?
